Reciprocal Training at Northern Rivers Equestrian Centre (NREC)
Joan Peachey Joan Peachey

In April we had the fantastic opportunity to be invited down to Northern Rivers Equestrain Centre by a fabulous lady, the owner and head coach of the Centre, Joan Peachey. If you new how riding establishments were in Australia you would understand why this was an Australian first for one centre to support another centre in such a fashion. There are some people who put the industry, the horses and the riders above other priorities such as protecting their knowledge for their own benefit. Joan Peachey is one of these generous people. Through my freindship with Sandra Peason-Adams I was introduced to Northern Rivers Equestrain Centre and the moment I met Joan I was the receipient of a View from the Galleryhugh hug and we were immediately best friends. Since that day 2 years ago we have had many a long day in the arena working with the horses, working with my trainees and coaches, working on my riding & coaching skills and we have shared many a wine and lots of great laughs. The Reciprocal Training aims were to advance the Coaches and EFA Trainees at Wattle Creek to expand their skills and knowledge and to expose them to another Riding Centre.

The trip to NREC was a great success. We took eleven riders with us. We left Brisbane at 5am and arrived at NREC at 8.30 ready to train at 9am. There follows two days of intenese training and riding. The following day we trained until late afternoon then drove home arriving back at Wattle Creek at 9pm that night - all were exhausted but that did not stop them singing most of the 4 hour journey home in the car. Counting Joans crew, we had 16 participants in the Reciprocal Workshop - a very impressive number. Joan expertly organised us all - each person had an assigned task at any given time - rider, coach, stable hand, Coach Assistant and all was dove tailed in to make a very well organised schedule over the two days. Joan has an Indoor Arena with a Spectators Gallery. The Wattle Creek riders were not only thrilled to ride new horses but riding in the Indoor Arena was very exciting. As you can see from the picture above, all in the Gallery were working hard as Joan fired questions at us.

Watermark Design
Simone Hart came to Wattle Creek as a student and became so passionate about riding that she became a Trainee Coach.

Simone is a dedicated coach who teaches on Friday afternoons. Simone can be seen throughout the week though as she regularly trains at her riding and coaching skills. Consequently she has quickly moved through her EFA training. She is a regular, sitting next to the arena, taking notes, whilst the Coach Eduacators are working at Wattle Creek.

Simone has other talents too- her main line of work is Photography with her own business Watermark Design. All who train with Simone have benefited from her photographic talant - infact most of the photos you have been seeing in the newsletter of late are her work.
