Private Riding Lessons

At Wattle Creek, we specialise in one on one lessons. 
This gives 100% of the Coach’s attention to the rider. This allows the experienced and inexperienced to work at their optimum pace. No riding experience is needed to start as we teach  from the first riding lesson to the highly experienced rider.  We give 30, 45 & 60min lessons on an individual basis or in blocks of 4 or blocks of 8.  The private lessons are booked at time to suit your schedule.  We start as early as 6.00am and finish as late as 7.00pm.

Following are some of the lesson plans we teach over your first lesson blocks:

  • The upright seat, aids & footfalls of walk trot, mounting & balance exercises.
  • Sit trot, balance exercises, upright seat, steering, impove aids upward downward.
  • Teach warm up, exercises, correct diagonals, canter on lunge & canter footfalls.
  • How to ride circle, tangents, canter positon on lunge, steering, transitions walk & trot.
  • Warm up, revise transitions, count footfalls - lenghten/shorten stride on circle.
  • Warm up, how to ride corners, upward transition canter off lunge, position corrections.
  • Warm up, trot poles, steering around obstacles, lengthen & shorten stride.
  • Identifying correct diagonal in trot, improve the sitting trot to increase stride length.
  • How to control and change the speed of paces - understanding topline movement.
  • 2pt and 3pt Seats - on the circle and over trot poles (grids).
  • How to ride a 20m circle - tangent points.
  • How to ride arena corners in walk and trot.
  • Related obstacles, How to obtain the correct canter lead.
  • Warm up, three loop serpentine, postional corrections, turns across arena, 3/4 line.
  • Warm up, figure of eight (1 circle rising 1 circle sitting), turn down centre line, halt X.

Term Lessons   

These lessons are designed around the school term and run for 4 hours each Saturday morning from 7.30 am to 11.30am.  They are for children of all ages. Each Saturday the riders have a private 30 minute lesson and the rest  of the time is spent learning, hands on, to care for horses.  This includes Activity Folders which the riders work through learning horse care and stable management.  This is ideal for those who would like to own their own horse but not be in a position to get one. 
   
On the last Saturday of each term a Gymkhana is held for all riders, with ribbons to be won by all and trophies for  “Hardest Worker” and “Most Improved Rider” which are presented at the End of Term Break up Party. 
DATES & TIMES
The Term follows the School Term and goes from the first Saturday of Term to the the last Saturday prior to the end of Term. Generally 8, 9 or 10 weeks. It starts at 7.30 am to 11.30pm

.On the first day it is good to arrive 15 mins early and please check in at the stable office for registration and payment.

Riders at Wattle Creek

MORNING TEA
Morning tea is served each day around 10.00am which is cordial and cream biscuits.  If you wish to bring more food please do so. There is an area in the courtyard for the riders to hang their bags up off the ground in the shade.

RIDING LESSON
The new riders have a 30min private, one on one, riding lesson each Saturday.  The time may vary from day to day. The riderswho have a safe and centered seat and who are approved by their coach to be an independent rider (one who can walk trot and canter with good control) will ride in one of the appropriate squads.

The last day of each Term we have a End of Term Gymkhana where all riders complete for ribbons and trophies.  The riders practice the Gymkhana Events the Saturday prior to this.  There is also an End of Term Party on the last day

SUN PROTECTION
Please ensure that your child has sunscreen on – we have more in the office if they need to re-apply. Please ensure that your child has a sun hat to where whilst not riding.

SAFETY- CLOTHING
All participants of the workshop must have sensible closed in shoes (joggers) – no sandals or open shoes. Riding boots are available for the lesson time only. Sensible clothing must also be worn.  No excessive jewellery. Polo shirts are ideal with collars for better sun protection and comfortable pants that stretch. Shorts and strappy tops are not advisable.

Cancellations or Missed Lessons

24 hour notice is required to cancel or postpone a lesson due to any circumstance – sickness, injury and other commitments.
Term lessons require the prior Thursday to cancel or postpone.
The Term / Block lesson will forfeit the prepaid lesson if no notification has been given. A $30 fee per 30mins if less than 24 hours notice is given, $45 fee for a 45min lesson and $60 for a 60min lesson. Individual lessons will incur the same fee.

CANCELLATION FEES: $30.00 for 30mins, $44.00 for 45mins & $60.00 for 60mins with less than 24hrs notification
FORFEIT LESSON: With no notification.
